Cinema

Cinema plays an important role in the life of any society. It is an available popular form of art. Lots of people find going to the cinema one of the best ways of spending their leisure time. The movie audience is predominantly a young one. Due to numerous video facilities, cinema attendances have declined sharply. But there is no denying the fact that the cinema-going habit is still a strong one.

No matter how large the place you live in is (whether it's a big city or a small provincial town, or even a settlement) there's most likely to be a cinema there. There are such genres of feature films as the western, the thriller, the musical, the drama and the comedy. The performance lasts from two or three hours and most cinemas have at least 4 performances a day. There is no doubt that a good cinema show is an excellent entertainment and quite cheap. Of late cinema screens in this country have been dominated by films produced in the USA. And this tendency is growing.
As for me, I'm fond of going to the cinema. It's a pity, I don't always have time for it. It's an open secret that we live in a very difficult time now. But people do need something amusing and pleasant, something to laugh at. That's why I give my preference to comedies.

The last comedy, I saw, is "Crocodile Dandy". The film tells about amusing adventures of a young lovely woman — reporter and a strong and brave crocodile hunter. At first, their relations were not friendly. She even looked down on him and he in return neglected her. But after he rescued her out of some difficult situations, their relations became more friendly. A happy end is an essential feature of American films. The same is true of this comedy. The main characters fall in love with each other in the end of the film.

My Going To The Cinema

When I want to go to the cinema, I usually see in the programme what films are on. Then I phone my friends and we discuss what films to see.We prefer feature films but also enjoy cartoons and popular science films. To see a good love story, musical or detective film is a very pleasant way of spending free time. If I want to go to an evening show, I usually book tickets in advance.
But for matinee performances I always buy tickets just before the show.

There are many talented actors and actresses in our country. My favorite actor is 0. Yankovskyi. My favorite actress is N. Gundareva. They played the leading parts in many films
and I always enjoy their superb acting.

The last film I saw was the screen version of the novel "Gone with the Wind" by M. Mitchell. This film is in colour. It's an old film but still it enjoys great popularity. There are many famous American actors in it with Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable in the leads. I was deeply impressed by their
acting and the film itself.

A Visit To The Cinema

Once I read an article about various kinds of entertainment. According to it TV, radio and cinema have made great changes in the entertainments with which people fill their
free time. There was a time when people knew what to do to enjoy themselves: they played games, sang, played musical instruments, went out shooting. Nowadays we can get entertained by the TV, the radio, the theatre or the cinema. Cinema is available no matter where you live. You can always find the film you like among horror films, thrillers, westerns, detective, love, musical films or
comedies.
Not so long ago most people used to visit cinema every week. Often cinema houses were overcrowded. But at present video production has flooded the market and cinema became
less popular.
I don't go often to the cinema and my friends are not regular cinema-goers either. But if there is a film, which is a hit with the public, I do my best to watch it. The last film I saw was Hollywood remake of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet". The action takes place in the modern world but all the rest is just like great Shakespeare had described: people, ancion, feelings. The original text was used in the film. And I have to mention that the music was great. I think the actors and the
actresses did their best and looked great. I'll remember the film for a long time.

The Best Film I Have Ever Seen

Lots of people find watching films one of the best ways of spending their leisure time.
Due to numerous video facilities, which have emerged in this country over the past years, we have a chance to watch the most popular and new films. Sitting in a comfortable armchair one can enjoy watching detective stories and westerns, horror films or screen versions of books.

As for me, I am like all my friends always impressed by films screened after a book. Moreover, I find it enjoyable to reread the book which I don't remember very well to be able to compare it with the screen version.
The film "Emma" with Gwyneth Paltrow as a leading actress is the screen version of the book written by the popular English woman-writer Jane Austene in 1816. Although many books of Jane Austene are about finding the perfect husband, she never married. She lived most of her life with her mother and sister.
The plot of this film tells us about a very attractive and clever woman. Emma decides that she wants to help people to have a life that is as perfect as hers. When she meets Harriet who is not as bright as she is and not as cultured as she is, Emma decides to try to improve her and help her find love. Harriet is admired by Robert Martin, a local farmer. Harriet likes him too but Emma does not think he is good enough for her and tells her to reject him.

Emma tries to match Harriet with someone else called Mr. Elton who is the local vicar. Unfortunately, the vicar does not fall in love with Harriet. He falls in love with Emma instead. Emma angrily rejects him. Emma is not always perfect. She often makes mistakes. One of the most memorable scenes in the film occurs at a picnic. Emma is irritated by a woman who is very boring so she tells her how boring she is.

During the film, Emma argues a lot with Mr. Knightley but then she discovers that she is in love with him. Unfortunately, she is not the only one. Harriet is in love with him too.
Luckily, the story ends happily for everyone. The film is very amusing. My dream now is to read this book in the original, that is, in English.

My Favorite Film (Война И Мир)

Usually we see films either in the cinema or on the TV. But from time to time I go to the cinema.

My favorite film is "War and Peace". The script of the film was written by Sergey Bondar-chuk and W. Solowjew. The Leningrad (now Sankt Petersburg) ballet-dancer Ludmila Saweljiewa played the main part. She played this role wonderfully. The other parts were played by A. Ktorov (old Bolkonsky), 0. Tabakov (Nikolai), I. Skobzeva (Helena). Borodino struggle, hunting, the first ball of Natasha made a great impression on me.  My favorite film is "The Fate of a Man". This film is excellent. It is difficult to find other words to describe it. It has enormous vigour and delicacy, it is full of purity and hope. A man is caught in the storm of war and loses everything. Black clouds surround him, and -yet he finds strength to bear up with it all; he finds strength to adopt a
child, a destitute, helpless creature..."
All the great events and the feelings aroused are depicted with taste, tact and restraint.
Тo wish to draw attention particularly to the extraordinary performance of the boy. Even if the film has no other merits, the child scenes, so subtle, profound and lifelike, so full of tragic vigor — these scenes alone would win Bondarchuk the reputation of a great director.

My Favorite Film(Ромео И Джульета)

Last Tuesday I saw the film "Romeo and Juliet" by Shakespeare. The starring was perfect. Romeo was played by Leonardo DiCaprio.
And I'll try to tell you about this film. In the town of Verona there were two rich families, the Capulets and the Montagues. There was an old quarrel between those two families. One day Capulet made a great supper. At that supper Romeo saw Juliet and fell in love with her at ones. Juliet had
the same feelings. Romeo asked Juliet to marry him. She agreed, but nobody knew about their plan. The next day Romeo and Juliet came to friar and he married them.

Some days passed and Juliet's father told her that she was to marry a young man whose name was Paris. Juliet didn't know what to do. But the friar helped her. He gave her
medicine and told her to go home and be ready to marry Paris. But when she drinks that medicine she will sleep for forty — two hours. Juliet did as the friar told her. Juliet's parents thought
that she was dead and put her into the family tomb. When Romeo heard that Juliet was dead he bought some poison and went to the tomb of the Capulets. Paris was there and Romeo
killed him.
Then Romeo kissed Juliet on the lips and drank his poison. At this moment Juliet woke up and saw that the young man was dead. Juliet took a dagger that was on the floor and
killed herself.

My Favourite Film (Унесенные Ветром)

Among different types of films (that is comedy, romantic drama, western, adventure film, police drama or detective film, psychological thriller, horror film, historical film) best of all I
like comedy and romantic drama, because such films are very cheerful and full of life. I don't like horror films and I find them quite disgusting.

Sometimes I may watch a police drama or a historical film, but I'm not very keen on these types of films. Now let me tell you about one of my favourite films "Gone with the wind" by the novel by Margaret Mitchell. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of its producer, but I like the acting.

Scarlett O'Hara — there is no more lively character, which makes the reader and the spectator palpitate (in the film this role was played by Vivian Lee). Maybe the words from the Irish song are about Scarlett: "if the Irish eyes are laughing, oh, they' re stealing your heart".
Scarlett goes through many trials and troubles, but her sharp and strong mind, her strong will help her to survive. And not only to survive, but to render and to develop moral values in this cruel world.
Ratt was telling her in vain that they were both scoundrels. He is cynical by conviction, she is under the pressure of circumstances.
Scarlett is a symbol of wonderful America, the child, who was crippled with greed, but didn't lose inner beauty. Even her name, which was found at the last moment in the publishing house contained the ideal and vice, innocence and regeneration. In English it sounds like Scarlett flower and illness (scarlet fever).
Much in common, though their characters and fates are different, has Scarlett with the character of another film Jane Eyre. They are too different, but at the same time too similar. Scarlett is very beautiful, flighty and noisy. Jane isn't beautiful. She is modest and peaceful. But they
are both strong in the difficult minutes of the life. Skarlett and Jane for the sake of love can pass through all the difficulties. They are faithful to their men. And I like it, that they, thank to their mind and abilities reached a lot in life. And eventually people get to appreciate both of them.

My Favourite Actors

My favourite actors are Mel Gibson and Whoopi Goldberg. Whoopi Goldberg came a long way to her present international success. Her mother was divorced and poor. Whoopi chose a very difficult career for a black woman. She started as a theatre actress and did very well. In the end she had a show on Broadway. Film producers saw her show and a new career in cinema began. She almost got an "Oskar" in Steven Spielberg's film. Whoopi can be a very serious actress. But
she can be very funny too.

Mel Gibson, one of eleven children, was born in New York. But his family moved to Australia when he was twelve. He is a traditional Hollywood man of action in some ways; he is strong and handsome with bright blue eyes. But in his films he can be funny and shy like a little boy. Gibson became famous in the "Mad Max" film, made by the Australian director George Miller. Max lives in a desert after a nuclear war. People drive incrediable cars and lorries and wear strange clothes. It is a fantastic mix of past and future. Mel Gibson is now also a film director. His first film as director was "The Man without a Face".

My Favourite Actor Кевин Костнер

Kevin Costner, a famous american actor, was born in Los Angeles. He spent his childhood often on the move, changing schools frequently, owing to his father's job at the regional electricity company. As a teenager, he developed a keen liking for football, baseball and basket-ball and was also interested in singing and writing poetry.
He married his college sweetheart Cindy whilst still at California State University and came out with a business degree in marketing. In his spare time he appeared in local theatre productions. Theatre became increasingly important to him and after having worked six weeks in a marketing company, he gave the job up to become an actor.

He played in many small part roles before his principle role which was not a success. However Costner himself was given good reviews. In 1987 his starring role in "The Untouchables" and "No Way Out" really introduced him to international fame. Indeed, he won the Star of Tomorrow prize from the U. S. National Association of Theatre Owners. Then in 1988 came "Bull Durham" which was a huge hit movie in the States about baseball. His subsequent film "Field of Dreams" was also a success and touched baseball again. Then came the violent drama movie "Revenge" followed by his first directorial debut film "Dances With Wolves" in which he also starred and which won 7 Oscars. His movie "Robin Hood, Prince of the Thieves" was also a great success.

I like this actor because the characters he plays are strong personalities, wise people who are worthy of my admiration. In my opinion, this is the reason of his growing popularity in many, countries. He is not only a talented actor, who's acting draws your attention from the very moment you see his face on the screen. But he is also a successful producer and continues working at his new films which are certain to amuse the
people.
